From Glacial Antarctica to Majestic Space, Embark on VR Adventures at the Library

Are you ready for an adventure?

Come to Euclid Public Library this winter/spring and go on assignment in Antarctica as a National Geographic photographer, stroll down the streets of 1920s Harlem, take personal tour of the private rooms in the White House with a former president and first lady as your tour guides, and join the staff of the International Space Station Crew to experience what it is like to live and work in zero-gravity.

EPL’s popular virtual reality program, Pop-Up VR Café returned on January 11. Every month, virtual reality headsets will be available in the fireplace area to take you on a special themed journey and if you would like to learn more about your experience, a collection of books will be nearby.

Pop-Up VR Café was a popular event in the library in 2019. It was cancelled 2020-2022 due to the pandemic. Thanks to a generous LSTA grant from the State Library of Ohio, the library purchased a Cleanbox. This device, like those used in hospitals, was created to effectively sanitize virtual reality headsets and controllers. When the box is turned on, Cleanbox emits UVC rays that kill most bacteria and viruses (including coronaviruses) so the headset can be worn by the next user in full safety. Cleanbox has been proven to kill Sars-Cov-2 (COVID-19) on virtual reality surfaces. Test results show a 99.9% efficacy after 60 seconds and 99.999% after a two-minute cycle.

Since it is safe to roam around virtual world again, here is a list of adventures waiting for you at the library this winter:
